Since 1994, the first year of the Gig Harbor Basket Brigade, the program has delivered more than 15,000 Thanksgiving baskets to local families in need.
Each year the Gig Harbor Basket Brigade continues to grow — 450+ volunteers are needed, annually, help to make this program possible.
Give thanks and share blessings.
Founded in 1994 by Gig Harbor resident, David Cathers, the Gig Harbor Basket Brigade became a program of the Greater Gig Harbor Foundation in 2013. In its first year, the Basket Brigade provided full Thanksgiving meals for eight unsuspecting families in need. Every year since, GHBB has grown to serve an increasing number of area families.
Today, the Basket Brigade averages about 1,300 packaged and delivered Thanksgiving baskets annually for local families in need, and area military families. Each year, hundreds of volunteers come together to make it all happen.
In 2020 and 2021, while in the midst of a pandemic, we were able to deliver about 750 gift cards each year to local families enabling them to purchase Thanksgiving meal essentials. In 2022, the Basket Brigade was again in full swing! More than 450 volunteers joined during the two-day operation to put baskets together and deliver them.
